Using drawing tools

36 drawing tools

The drawing toolbar on the left side of the chart has 36 tools: trendlines, rays, horizontal and vertical lines, Fibonacci retracements and extensions, channels, pitchforks, a brush, text labels, and shapes.

Drawing on the chart

  1. Click a tool in the toolbar (or use a keyboard shortcut, if assigned)
  2. Click on the chart to place the first point
  3. Click again to place the second point (most tools need two, though some, like horizontal lines, only need one)

Once placed, most tools automatically deactivate so you don’t accidentally draw a second one on your next click. The brush is the exception: it stays active until you pick a different tool or press Escape, so you can sketch freehand without reselecting it each stroke.

Editing a drawing

Click any existing drawing to select it. Selected drawings show handles you can drag to reposition the endpoints, or drag the whole line to move it. Right-click a drawing for options: colour, line style, lock, and delete.

Locking a drawing

Lock a drawing to prevent it from being moved or edited by accident, useful once you’ve marked up a level you want to keep. Right-click the drawing and choose Lock.

Deleting a drawing

Select the drawing and press Delete, or right-click and choose Delete. To clear everything on the chart, use Delete all drawings from the chart’s context menu.

  • Trendlines — connect two points to mark a trend
  • Fibonacci retracement — mark a swing high/low to see standard retracement levels
  • Channels — parallel lines for a price range
  • Pitchfork — three-point tool for projecting trend channels

Drawings are saved with your chart layout, so they’re still there next time you open it.
